M.Sc. in Health Services Management
The programme provides an understanding of management principles and their application to the complex environment of the health services.
In addition to multidisciplinary teaching, drawing on the knowledge and expertise from across the Health Sciences and Business Studies at Trinity College, the programme also includes contributions from leading
policy makers and senior managers in the Irish health systems, thus ensuring a practical focus and equipping participants with the skills and understanding needed to manage more effectively in a rapid changing
environment.
The programme is targeted at professionals involved in the planning, organisation and/or delivery of services. These could include general managers or Health Service professionals with management or
leadership responsibilities in their organisations. It is designed to encourage and support health professionals’ involvement in the health services.
Content
The first year covers the principles and practice of management and understanding the complex healthcare environment through a diverse range of modules.
The second year focuses on developing a more sophisticated understanding of health policy and strategic management, in Ireland as well as in comparative international contexts.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the importance of interdisciplinary exchange within small group settings. Teaching takes place over three consecutive days each month to facilitate work release for full-time managers.
